School Social Workers Honored At March 2017 Board Business Meeting
March 20, 2017
In recognition of National Social Workers’ Month, OPSB Superintendent Dr. Henderson Lewis, Jr. recognized social workers for all they do in public schools at the March 16, 2017 OPSB Business Meeting. In New Orleans, a third of students show symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and depression, exceeding the national average. This means students need an additional layer of support that teachers can’t always provide. This is where social workers are critical to the education system. Superintendent Lewis Jr. presented a proclamation to OPSB social workers on behalf of OPSB members.
