Mary Garton – Assistant Superintendent 

Mary K. Garton is the Assistant Superintendent of the Orleans Parish School Board has been working in public education in New Orleans for many years.  Mary taught in Louisiana public schools for almost ten years, spending most of those years as a middle school teacher in New Orleans Public Schools.  Mary has significant non-profit and district administration experience, having served on the leadership team of Jefferson Parish Public Schools as Chief of Staff and Chief Human Capital Officer.  She joined Superintendent Lewis as his transition team leader before assuming the role of Chief Portfolio Officer and Chief Student Services Officer with the Orleans Parish School Board.  Mary transitioned to her role as Assistant Superintendent in July, 2018. Mary is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis and the University of New Orleans, with a M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction and Mathematics.  She is married and is the mother to two young sons, William and George.

Amanda Aiken – Senior Chief and Portfolio Officer

Amanda L. Aiken is the Senior Chief and Portfolio Officer for the Orleans Parish School Board. Before serving in this role Ms. Aiken was the Chief of External Relations for the Orleans Parish School Board. She is the Founder and President of A.Leigh Solutions, an educational consulting group. Aiken’s expertise include leadership development, teacher development, CMO strategy, recruitment, school turnaround, community relations, and the implementation of trauma informed/restorative discipline practices.

Prior to her work on the district level Aiken worked for the New Orleans College Prep Charter Management Organization in numerous roles including Senior Director of Schools, Instructional Manager, 4th grade teacher, Resident Principal, and most notably she served as the Turnaround Principal for Lawrence D. Crocker College Prep. After two years, Crocker was able to grow from a low F to a C. Crocker has also gained local and national recognition for its trauma informed and restorative justice practices. Before moving to New Orleans, Aiken taught 4th grade in Georgia’s Gwinnett County School System.

Aiken is a graduate of Spelman College, where she earned her BA in Child Development/Teacher Certification. She obtained her Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Teaching from Teachers College, Columbia University.

Eric Seling – Chief Operating Officer 

Eric Seling currently serves as Chief Operating Officer for the Orleans Parish School Board. In addition to financial oversight, Eric is responsible for facilities, information technology, procurement, and child nutrition for the district.  Eric previously serviced as Chief of Staff to the Chief Administrative Officer at the City of New Orleans where he worked to improve operational efficiencies, support critical transformative projects through various City departments, and provide budget support for the City’s $600M annual budget.

Prior to joining the City of New Orleans, Eric was founding Chief Operating Officer of ReNEW Schools CMO where he managed CMO and school-based financial growth including all grant reporting, modeling, budget development and executing strategic plans for growth from 0 to 10 charter schools.  A former teacher, Eric earned his MBA from Tulane University’s Freeman School of Business and his B.A. from The College of Wooster.

Gaby Fighetti – Chief Student Access Officer 

Gabriela Fighetti joined the OPSB in April 2018 as the Chief Student Access Officer in anticipation of the unification of New Orleans public schools under local governance. At OPSB, Fighetti is responsible for a division that ensures families have fair and equitable access to school and the safety net supports they need to remain in school once enrolled. Fighetti began this work at the Louisiana Recovery School District in 2011 where she led the creation of the unified enrollment system and left the RSD briefly 2014 to join the Institute for Innovation in Public School Choice (IIPSC). IIPSC is a national non-profit that works with school districts and their partners to create unified enrollment systems. Fighetti led IIPSC’s work in Oakland, CA and Indianapolis, IN. Prior to joining the RSD, Fighetti worked at the New York City Department of Education, where she held several leadership positions in the Division of Portfolio Planning over the course of her seven-year tenure. Fighetti studied at Columbia University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree at Barnard College and a Master of Arts degree in public administration at the School for International and Public Affairs. In 2014, Fighetti was named one of Gambit Magazine’s Top 40 under 40 in New Orleans.


Avione B Pichon – Chief External Affairs Officer

Avione Brown Pichon is a native New Orleanian and education leader in New Orleans. She serves as the Chief External Affairs Officer for NOLA Public Schools. Ms. Pichon joined the Orleans Parish School Board as the Executive Director of Strategic Priorities and was tasked with moving the organization forward through focused effort on its high stakes goals as schools return to local control, managing its external affairs work, and building organizational systems. With children of her own in Orleans Parish public schools, Avione is passionate about public education in New Orleans and creating the conditions to ensure all kids across our city receive an excellent education.

Before joining OPSB, Avione served as the External Officer and Managing Director of Strategic Partnerships at Teach For America and was responsible for cultivating, stewarding, and managing external partnerships with local school partners, state-wide certification partners, and Teach for America alumni-led organizations effectively raising almost $1 million dollars annually. After graduating from Howard University, Avione got her start as a teacher in the School District of Philadelphia teaching middle school math. She earned her Master’s in elementary education from St. Joseph’s University, eventually returning to New Orleans to study law at Tulane and was thereafter an associate at Jones Walker Law Firm for five years practicing business and commercial litigation and education law.

Garri L. Brown – Chief of Staff

Garri L. Brown is a proud New Orleans native and currently serves as Chief of Staff for the Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB). In this role, Garri leads executive-level strategic initiatives for the school district and manages all human resource functions. Prior to joining OPSB, Garri worked in the corporate sector for nearly twenty years in operations, associate development, and human resources before transitioning to the field of education. She served as Executive Director of Employee Services for Jefferson Parish Public Schools where she led a team to implement a performance management system for 3,000 school system employees and was responsible for managing the hiring and on boarding of 400+ teachers and support staff each school year.

Garri graduated from Grambling State University with a Bachelor’s in Accounting. She also holds a Master’s in Human Resources Management from Walden University with a specialization in Organizational Development and a Senior Professional Human Resources (SPHR) certification.
